Director Arumuga Kumar makes his directorial with Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren, which features Vijay Sethupathi and Gautham Karthik in lead roles. Gayathri, Niharika , Danny, Ramesh Thilak, Rajkumar and few more prominent actors in important roles. Justin Prabhakaran has composed music for this film.
In the distant lands of Yamasingapuram, hidden village in forest hills of Andhra, we come across a tribal group known as organic thieves. They rob gold and money without hurting anyone and that’s their title for. Yaman (Vijay Sethupathi) happens to be the only heir to the tribe’s queen like lady (Viji). On his way for robbery in Pondicherry, he comes across a beautiful college girl Sowmya (Niharika) and abducts her to his native village. Sowmya’s boyfriend Harish (Gautham Karthik) takes a trip to the hidden village in hills to rescue her. What actually made Yaman kidnap Sowmya and what’s the link between them?
If you’ve decided to watch Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren, what should be really the earnest condition is that you unlearn your so-called rational abilities, expect least without looking out for big things or an exceptional premise. If your intentions are to watch a cool breezy comedy caper that doesn’t let you into the emotional burdens and just a free time pass movie, Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren would definitely keep you engrossed and enjoyable in places. When it comes to story, it doesn’t have a complicated premise as you could have already glimpsed in the synopsis column. The first half proceeds with a much engaging phase, where the humour and drama keeps going on perfect standard. The second hour being shot in the same location slightly looks like hampering the momentum of drama. But it gets diminished by the contribution of performances by Vijay Sethupathi, Rajkumar, Danny and Ramesh Thilak.
No need to define the performance of Vijay Sethupathi as he effortlessly carries off our attention. Even this film is not an exception to unleash his proficient performance. Especially the scene, where he continuously speaks to Gautham Karthik by climax leaves the entire theatre in ultimate applause mode. On the other end, Gautham Karthik gets a decent scope to exhibit his good performance and he has improvised a lot than his previous movies. When it comes to female lead role, it is Niharika who gets more footage than Gayathri. Ramesh Thilak, Danny and Rajkumar stand out best on their performances like pillar to this film.
1. First half
2. Vijay Sethupathi and Daniel Balaji scenes involving humour
What doesn’t work?
2. Few slow moments in second half
On the whole..
Director Arumuga Kumar has attempted to blend a premise with tribal backdrop and urban love story with the genre of ‘Black Comedy’, which yields best results for his earnest attempts.
Verdict : A fun-filled comedy ride that has enjoyable moments
