Revealed: How Actor Vijay Sethupathi Got Makkal Selvan Title Cinema News
The Tamil film industry has had titles for most of their star actors. Like Rajinikanth, who is called the Superstar, Kamal Haasan, who is the Ulaganagan to his fans, Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Thala Ajith, actor Vijay Sethupathi is known as Makkal Selvan. He was given this tag by director Seenu Ramasamy while the two were working on the film 'Dharmadurai'.
While this is well known to most people, what many do not know is the complete story behind this one — the how and why behind Vijay Sethupathi being given this title. The star, in a recent interaction with the fans, revealed the true story.
During the shoot of the 'Aandipatti Kanava Kaathu' song, Vijay Sethupathi had reached the location before the crew. While he was waiting for them, he smelled tamarind rice being cooked by workers from Munnar at a temple mutt nearby. He sent his driver to ask them if he can have some, and they gave him the food in a plate. When the director arrived, the actor shared some with him, too. Seenu, too, liked it, and they requested for some more, to which the workers obliged. That's when director Seenu Ramasamy decided to give Vijay Sethupathi the tag 'Makkal Selvan' and gave him 500 rupees as well.
The star had earlier in his career mentioned that he doesn't believe in having such titles. "I was hesistant and said I do not want such titles, for which the director explained that these titles have a postive vibe about them. He also said that this would make me feel responsible and drive me in the right direction when people call me with that name," he had said.
